EPR
What is ERP (Extended Producer’s Responsibility?
EPR is a requirement that government of India poses on all the electronics manufacturers and importers to ensure efficient recycle or discard of goods sold by them at the end of the lifecycle of goods. It is the commitment made by a producer or manufacturer to facilitate a reverse collection mechanism and recycling of end of life, post-consumer waste. The objective of EPR is to circle it back into the system to recover resources which could go to waste if disposed improperly. Simply put, If a TV manufacturing company has been selling its TVs in India with each TV having a life of 10 years. Now, in order for the company to sell 100 TVs in India this year they are required to have a certificate of disposing a percentage of those 100 TVs that the manufacturer had sold 10 years ago.
