Extended Producer Responsibility Consultation
Even though a producer responsibility system has been in place since 1997, it still needs to pay for the entire price of packaging trash disposal. What are the main points?
Household waste package disposal expenses will no longer be borne by the government thanks to the EPR; instead, they will be borne by the packaging manufacturers. The goal is to enhance the use of sustainable packaging, minimize the amount of packaging used by companies, and reduce the amount of trash generated. The intention is to make recycling simpler for families by improving the labelling of recyclable packaging. There will be standardized, legible labels as part of this process.
Producer contributions will fund expanded home recycling collection options, including plastic film and flexible packaging that are not presently collected. The E-waste Management Rules 2016 apply to anyone who creates, uses, buys, sells, transfers, purchases, collects, stores, dismantles, or processes e-waste or electrical and electronic equipment listed in Schedule I, or any of their components, consumables, parts, or spares, with the following exceptions:
By the Batteries (Management and Handling) Rules established by the Act, used lead acid batteries
Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSME) Act of 2006
Radioactive wastes are governed by the laws enacted in 1962 under the Atomic Energy Act.
Important Meaning-
Extended Producer obligation is a term that describes the obligation placed on any maker of electrical or electronic equipment for properly channelling e-waste and treating trash in an ecologically responsible manner. Extended Producer Responsibility might involve adopting a take-back system, setting up collection centers, or both, and having agreed-upon agreements with a certified dismantler or recycler, individually or collectively, through a Producer Responsibility Organization. This type of responsibility can also be referred to as extended product responsibility.
When a producer receives authorization from the Central Pollution Control Board to handle EPR by the implementation plans and targets specified in such authorization, including information about the Producer Responsibility Organization or Authorized Recycler and e-waste exchange, as applicable, the term "Extended Producer Responsibility - Authorisation" is used to describe the arrangement.

• Producer
• Importer
• Manufacturer
• Dealer
EPR Authorization is not applicable under E-waste Management Rules 2016.
Appliances, both electrical and electronic, as well as their parts, that are not explicitly specified in Schedule I
Importation of electrical and electronic appliances for producers who have been granted EPR Authorization.
Import of spares (both old and new) from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) by the actual use for the aim of having the warranty replaced.
